Get to Know Lakeview

Lakeview -- with Lake Michigan running along its east end -- is aptly named. Legend tells us it was named for the Lakeview Hotel, a hotel built in 1853 in the “country” just 4 miles north of downtown Chicago.

Lakeview is one of the city’s most livable and walkable areas. It is home to many smaller neighborhoods, including Lakeshore East, West Lakeview, Roscoe Village, Graceland West, Southeast Ravenswood, Belmont Harbor and Wrigleyville, home of the Chicago Cubs. Lakeview residents enjoy the charm and beauty of tree-lined streets and Lake Michigan, just minutes from the bustle of downtown Chicago, a short commute on Lake Shore Drive.

What to do in Lakeview

Lakeview is found on Lake Michigan’s shoreline, giving Lakeview residents many opportunities for boating, jogging, volleyball, golfing, skating, biking, fishing and more. In Lakeview, you can find scores of sports bars, especially near Wrigley Field, where you might catch a few games. For cultural endeavors, you can walk to Lakeview’s many restaurants, small theaters, intimate concert venues, galleries and nightclubs. Lakeview also offers some of the most diverse shopping in the city.

Lakeview’s Distinctive Housing

East, along the Lake, you will find high rises with many one- and two-bedroom condos, Victorian greystones, large single-family houses and lavish mansions, many that date back to the 1800s. Going west, you will find many rehabbed vintage apartments/condos, two- and three- unit buildings, multi-unit condo buildings, storefront conversions, lofts and single-family homes.

Wrigleyville has many of rehabbed Victorian greystones, two- and three-flat buildings and condominiums. One notable Wrigleyville street is Alta Vista Terrace, with beautiful row houses that resemble an old English town.
