Get to Know Lincoln Square

Northwest of Lakeview lies Lincoln Square, a small group of neighborhoods offering tree-lined streets, large parks, and its own rapid-transit system that goes to the Loop and other areas in the city. Pocket neighborhoods include Ravenswood Gardens, Ravenswood Manor, Budlong Woods and Bowmanville.

Its heritage of German immigrants is still apparent in the inspired architecture and a few of the dining options. Today, it's a wonderful blend of families and professionals, who take pride in their community.

What to do in Lincoln Square

Lincoln Square is a major transportation and shopping hub of the North Side with convenient public transportation, easy parking and Lincoln Avenue (one of Chicago's diagonal streets) running through it. Shopping includes a mixture of independent and one-of-a kind businesses.

Lincoln Square boasts many traditional restaurants, with newer trendier restaurants adding to the mix. It is also home to the acclaimed Old Town School of Folk Music, a popular entertainment venue and music school. With a movie theater, grocery stores and a large branch of the Chicago Public Library system, residents find little reason to leave the area.

Lincoln Square's Distinctive Housing

Lincoln Square's residential blocks are full of brick two- and three-flats, as well as many single-family homes, many recently gentrified or built from scratch. An area known for its green spaces, many properties are on larger lots.

Ravenswood Gardens, just east of the North Branch of the Chicago River, is characterized by brick bungalows and two- and three-flats. Ravenswood Manor, west of the river, is a small section of single-family homes. Many lie alongside the river and have private boat docks.
