Get to Know Jefferson Park
Northwest of downtown Chicago, lies Jefferson Park, a family-oriented community with superior access to the Kennedy Expressway (routes 90/94), CTA and trains. With a beautiful canopy of mature trees, and a broad collection of housing styles, many city-dwellers opt for Jefferson Park before considering the suburbs. Its main thoroughfares include Milwaukee, Higgins and Montrose avenues and Gale Street.
What to do in Jefferson Park
With fully equipped playgrounds and field houses, Wilson Park and namesake Jefferson Park offer many sporting and recreational activities. Portage Park, one of the largest neighborhood parks in Chicago, is a mere six blocks away from Jefferson Park's southern border. As for restaurants, many are family-owned with European-minded menus. And of course, the newly renovated Gale Street Inn has been attracting rib lovers for over a decade.
Distinctive Housing
Although it has its share of condominiums and multi-units, Jefferson Park has one of the widest varieties of single-family home styles and vintages in the city. Ranch houses from the 1950s are most common but the neighborhood is also home to a number of Cape Cods, Georgians, bungalows and older frame homes. And stately Victorians from the turn of the century, can be found on side streets near the heart of the neighborhood.
